The Beginnings
Surprised at the lack of natural fragrances on the market, Edition Perfumes began when Timothy began experimenting with blending scents to create his first fragrance.
Timothy showed his first fragrance to a friend who promptly asked if she could trial for a week one of the only two samples he had created. Reluctantly Timothy agreed and when it came time for her to return the sample she implored him to put it into production as in that time she had been stopped by three people on the street to ask what she was wearing.
Driven by the encouragement and the initial positive response, Timothy presented that very same vial to Caroline Burstein, the creative director of iconic boutique Browns Fashion and a lover of fragrances. Her immediate reaction and that of her staff was so positive the Browns insisted that they have the right to launch the perfume.
Why "Edition" Perfumes?
The original fragrance had to be adapted to take into account seasonal variations of the raw ingredients. Natural ingredients vary from season to season and crop to crop. This can affect the fragrance in minute ways. It's the reason why some perfume aficionados seek out specific years of a perfume's production. Thus the concept of Edition Perfumes was born.
Thus every box is numbered and released in production editions. This allows you to relate each bottle to a production run - think of it like the vintage year on a bottle of fine wine or the print edition for a book. The edition you own can always be discerned by the number following the perfume type on the label. For example "She Came to Stay - Eau de Parfum #001" means that this is the first edition of that particular scent and blend. Flip the box over and you'll find a unique production number so you know how many bottles where made in that edition and which bottle you own.
Like book editions where the covers often change, we wanted to take the concept of editions further and thus choose to work with established and emerging artists whose ethos compliments the fragrance to which they have been paired to create limited edition covers. These covers will change from edition to edition and once sold out will no longer be available. Each box is stamped with a number allowing you to know which bottle and which work of art you own.
